“Do not feed the trolls” and its abbreviation “DNFTT”.
The “trollface” or “coolface”, is sometimes used to indicate trolling.
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: “That was an excellent troll you posted”.
While the word troll and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels subjective, with trolling describing intentionally provocative actions outside of an online context. For example, mass media uses troll to describe “a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families”.
So when the trolls come a calling in the chat rooms and blogs and forums just ignore them… That’s how you kill a troll… Those of you who wish to play with trolls are more then welcome to, just don’t get caught up in it…
Real debating and conjecture is needed to make progress so use the features here to your advantage… Be open minded and be willing to play devils advocate with each other… This movement can’t be explained in a simple black and white, left and right paradigm… There is a cornucopia of reasons, shades of gray, as to why people join the occupation… That is why corporate media will never be able to understand or accurately represent to the public this movement… They work for that paradigm… So let’s use the alternative media outlets to the best of our abilities… And remember a simple childhood saying… “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”… The ideas we form and the original message should be our only concern…
